minor-bidi">Vasil Levski was the first unifier of the nation, in his name we seek and we shall seek solace and hope even in the moments of greatest disunity. This was stated by the President of the National Assembly Tsveta Karayancheva at the commemoration ceremony in Karlovo on the occasion of the 148th anniversary of the death of the Apostle.

minor-bidi">“Today we need to get together, to be together with other Bulgarians, to talk about Vasil Levski and what he means to us,” said the President of the National Assembly. “Our innate need to return to the legacy and the creed of the Apostle of Freedom is one of the traits that define us as a nation,” stated Tsveta Karayancheva.

minor-bidi">The President of the Parliament pointed out that Vasil Levski shall remain in the consciousness of all Bulgarians with his moral purity, with the sanctity of his sacrifice, with the sincere humanity, which today we call tolerance. “He managed to draw the line between patriotism and nationalism with just a few words,” Tsveta Karayancheva emphasized. She noted that the “Ordinance to the Workers for the Liberation of the Bulgarian People” and the draft Statute of the BRCC, which were penned by the Apostle, were some of the most significant precursors of the Tarnovo Constitution – both in spirit and as a source of inspiration.

minor-bidi">At the commemoration ceremony, the President of the National Assembly accepted the formation of the representative guard of honour of the Karlovo garrison.

minor-bidi">The celebration was attended by the Mayor of Karlovo Emil Kabaivanov, the Chairperson of the Defence Committee Gen. Konstantin Popov, the MPs Mladen Shishkov, Danka Lyurtova, Veska Nencheva, Dzhevdet Chakarov, Halil Letifov, Boris Yachev, Manol Genov, the Regional Governor of Plovdiv Dani Kanazireva.
