The National Assembly ratified the Agreement between the Governments of Bulgaria and the United States on cooperation on the nuclear capacity construction project at the Kozloduy NPP site
The National Assembly ratified the Agreement between the Governments of Bulgaria and the United States on cooperation on the nuclear capacity construction project at the Kozloduy NPP site and the civil nuclear power program of the Republic of Bulgaria, signed in Sofia on 12 February 2024.
After the entry into force of the law, the Minister of Foreign Affairs must notify the United States of the ratification of the agreement through diplomatic channels, and the Minister of Energy must publish the document in the State Gazette within 15 days from the date of its entry into force for Bulgaria, MPs voted. By decision of the National Assembly of 12 January and 18 December 2023, the Minister of Energy was obliged to take all actions for a positive decision on the construction of new nuclear power capacity with AP1000 technology.
The National Assembly also ratified the Participating Partner Agreement to the NATO Innovation Fund The international document was ratified at second reading with 161 votes in favour, 36 against and 16 abstentions.
The NATO Innovation Fund is established in order to provide investments in the participating countries, it is funded on a voluntary basis, with a duration of 15 years, according to the motives of the submitter – the Council of Ministers. The Fund will provide investments in high-tech startups that have potential in security and defence.
Outgoing Ministers Krastyu Krastev, Julian Popov, Georgi Gvozdeikov, Kalin Stoyanov, Andrey Tsekov, Ivanka Shalapatova and Rumen Radev answered MPs' questions during the parliamentary scrutiny.
